SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG
is the oldest winery in the Danube River region in Kamptal with a history dating back to the 12th century. Monks, who originally arrived from Burgundy, received their first vineyards in 1171 and own them until today. Today the estate is concentrating on the typical expressions of the Danube appellations in all categories (regional, village, single vineyard). Beside the classical Danube wines, the estate is producing a few specialities of the Danube region. As the village LANGENLOIS became in the past few decades the epicentre of quality sparkling production, the estate produces four different sparkling cuvees. A few red wines based on the Pinot family are grown on the old Danube river bed and some sweet wines are produced on a regular basis. Another speciality is historical winemaking which is the content of the TRADITION wines, which pays homage to the traditions of the 19th century winemaking. The estate is a member of the association ‘Österreichische Traditionsweingüter’, who is establishing a vineyard classification system in Austria.
